Picture of an ash tree at Sharagore, Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland

Ash tree at Sharagore, Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland, 2004, pen and ink, 20 x 22 cm

This is a sketch of an ash tree on our bit of ground at Sharagore, near Dunree Fort and Buncrana on the shores of Lough Swilly (the lake of shadows), Inishowen, county Donegal, Ireland. We call it the laughing tree because the leaves of ash trees spring out like laughter from their buds: ha ha,ha,ha,ha.
